Get your paper written and published

Many of us are obliged to publish - or perish. There is plenty of information on what a scientific paper should look like when finished, but little information on how to get there. This one-day course, Writing a journal article - and getting it published, is designed to show you how to get started - and then complete the task in 10 easy stages. To get the most out of the course you should come with an idea for your article.

By the end of the session you will…

  • understand the publications game - and how you can be a winner;
  • make logical and informed decisions on where to send your articles;
  • reduce rewriting in the final stages by planning before you start;
  • cut 'information overload' by using simple brainstorming techniques;
  • make the most of scarce time by writing for 10 minutes a day;
  • use 'evidence based' writing to solve disputes with others;
  • apply simple marketing techniques to increase the chances of your paper being looked at favourably.

Who should - and should not - attend
This course is suitable for anyone who wants to look at how they write scientific papers, and who is ready to start doing so.
This course is not suitable for those who have yet to decide on what to write about, who want a course in critical appraisal or 'scientific English', or who are on the whole satisfied with the way they write.

What the course will cost
The current cost for a single place on an open course is £175 (plus VAT). This includes tuition, a course book, coffee and tea. Lunch is not included. The next open course will be held at BMA House in London on 17 October 2006. We have applied for CPD/CME approval.
