Courses
Our
most popular courses are:
- Effective
writing: a guide
to the rules governing all kinds of writing. This course
can be aimed to meet the needs of specific groups, such
as public health doctors.
- Writing
a journal article
and getting it published: a 10-stage process from
inspiration to publication. This is available in one-day
and two-day versions.
- Editing medical journals
(two-day residential course in conjunction with the BMJ
and Blackwell Publishing): this is for clinicians and
scientists who find themselves editing journals and other
publications.
- Medical
journalism: how
to get published in publications other than scientific
journals.
Other available
courses:
Generally we run these
courses on behalf of other organisations, such as
pharmaceutical companies, universities, hospitals and
publishing organisations. In order to meet people's
individual needs we limit the size of each group, and place
great emphasis on discussion and practical work. We also
take the view that training should be fun.
We will
design courses
specifically for your needs and provide advice on a range of
written communications problems.
Hundreds of doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other health
professionals have attended our courses in the UK and
northern Europe over the past decade.
All of our courses are based
on the assumption that writing skills can be taught, and
that there are simple principles that, if applied sensibly,
make all the difference between messages being put out - or
put across.
What they say about our courses:
- 'Half-way through the
morning my objectives became more specific and
measurable, ie "by the end of the day be able to write an
effective project proposal" - which I did!'
- 'An excellent course -
probably the best, most focused and relevant-to-subject I
have been on for a long while. The balance of group work/
teaching and use of teaching aids was just right.'
- 'My boss could do with a
course on managing effective writing!'
- 'I am very grateful for
your excellent feedback. That sort of positive criticism
we young doctors get very seldom.'
- 'More than expected - I
became enthusiastic about writing.'
- 'This was the first
course I went on where I didn't fall asleep!'
